Facebook Now Re-targets Me

So recently, I’ve been seeing a lot more relevant ads to me on my Facebook RHS column or on my news feed as ‘Page Like’ ads or sponsored stories. As a Facebook advertiser, this wouldn’t surprise me if I spent a lot of time on Facebook from said account because they can easily see what my key interests and buzz words are.

However, I signed out of my active account and into a newly created one. At first, the ads seemed irrelevant. So with a Facebook account that had no page likes, status updates, photos or friends, I ventured to the world of good ol’ Google.

Here’s what I did:

1) Run a Google search for “TribeFit Gym”.

2) Next, I switched tabs and signed out and back into Facebook to refresh my feeds.

3) Check my Newsfeed and right-hand-side column for ads. The result? (See below)

The interesting question to ask here is how Facebook Ads (an ad network independent to Google) managed to pull my search data within minutes to be able to retarget to me in the comfort of my own social sphere.

We think we’re on to something here. Then again, who doesn’t love a good old conspiracy theory?
